We have been awarded the Austrian Eco Label and the EU Eco Label

Feeling green

Winter air and summer scent. Harvesting and sowing. Spring colours and autumn delights. Growth and decay. Mindful in our interactions and grateful for what is – we enjoy bringing old knowledge together with new and rediscovering our very own diversity in nature time and again. For ever in flux and yet always the same, it merely changes its form and, in doing so, makes us alive, creative, adaptable and incredibly rich.

Trees for Tomorrow

When your contribution is deeply rooted

A small wooden sign on your bedroom door – and you're already supporting the next tree-planting initiative: in partnership with the "Bäume für Morgen" (Trees for Tomorrow) charity based in Maishofen, we are linking guests’ voluntary decision not to have their rooms cleaned with a specific tree-planting initiative.

See how easy it is to get involved: On your next stay, hang the wooden sign on your bedroom door to consciously opt out of room cleaning. You can do this up to three times a week. A tree is planted for every clean we don't do. In 2025, we were able to support "Trees for Tomorrow" in planting 425 trees on behalf of our guests.

You can find out more about the organisation and the projects it has already carried out directly on the “Bäume für Morgen” website.

Hotel with the Austrian Ecolabel

Purposefully natural

Having been awarded the Austrian Eco Label and the EU Eco Label, we are truly passionate about purposefully combining quality and environmental protection here at our hotel. For many years now, we have ensured that, in everything we do, creating value for our local community is our top priority and that the natural balance is preserved.

We source our precious drinking water from the Blausee spring at the entrance to the Obersulzbachtal valley, whilst we obtain heat and energy from the Neukirchen heating plant as part of the natural cycle. We also make use of the heat recovery system in our hotel’s cooling systems. We attach great importance to locally sourced produce and select our partners very carefully; we prioritise short supply chains and do a lot ourselves – because, for us, sustainability is more than just a buzzword. You can find details of what we do below.

Our aim is to raise awareness of the importance of living in harmony with each other: through the "Bäume für Morgen" association, which promotes sustainable transport in the region thanks to the included National Park Summer Card, sustainable travel using the free Guest Mobility Ticket for buses and trains in the Salzburg region, or the mindful enjoyment of what nature has to offer. If you’re looking for a place that embodies everything that brings together nature, appreciation and awareness – then you’ve come to the right place at the Hotel Gassner **** Superior. We’d be delighted if you were to join us for a purposefully natural holiday.

What is close to our hearts and enhances your holiday

Connected to our home region

From bread for breakfast to DIY around the house: behind many of the things that make your holiday with us at the Hotel Gassner so special are the people from our local area. We’d be delighted to tell you who we work with, what we produce ourselves, and what decisions shape our day-to-day hotel operations.

Which Eco Labels has the Hotel Gassner been awarded?

Our Hotel Gassner in Neukirchen am Großvenediger holds the Austrian Eco Label and the EU Eco Label. In the official registers, you will find our establishment listed under licence number 816 for the Austrian Eco Label and under AT/051/080 for the EU Eco Label. There you can find out about our awards and read more about our business.

Which regional produce features in Gassner’s cuisine?

We source our bread and pastries from Schroll Bakery in Neukirchen, and our ham, bacon and sausages from the local butchers, Rumpold & Schöppl. Cheese and yoghurt come from Pinzgau Milch, whilst fish come from the Trixl fish farm in Fieberbrunn.

The fresh milk is supplied to us by the Rohrerbauer family from Neukirchen, whilst the honey comes from our own beehive. We also serve homemade jams and delicious treats from our kitchen. Ingredients from our hotel’s own garden and nature’s bounty also feature in our dishes.

Which products do you make yourselves at the hotel?

Among other things, we make our own breakfast jams, herb salts and blueberry and elderflower syrups. Hans-Peter grows the chillies for our chilli salt in his own greenhouse. Our range of home-made products also includes Swiss stone pine schnapps, blueberry gin, other syrups for the hotel bar and a selection of fine smoking blends.

You can purchase some of these special items here at the hotel – as a little gift or as a memento of your stay with us.

What role do local craft businesses play in the hotel?

For new-build and renovation projects, we work in partnership with local tradespeople. Even in our day-to-day hotel operations, we rely on local partners wherever possible – from electricians to joiners. We value the personal interaction and the expertise of the people who help shape our organisation.

Where does the drinking water at the Hotel Gassner come from?

Our drinking water comes from the Blausee spring at the entrance to the Obersulzbachtal valley. You can enjoy it throughout the hotel straight from the tap. The water at Blausee is regularly tested by an accredited testing and inspection body.

How is the Hotel Gassner heated?

We receive district heating from the Neukirchen heating plant. There, wood chips are used in biomass boilers to generate heat. In addition, we make use of the heat recovery from our cooling systems at the hotel: Heat generated during the cooling process is thus recovered for further use across the building.

How can I organise my holiday without a car of my own?

With the Salzburg Verkehr Guest Mobility Ticket, you can use public transport throughout the province of Salzburg during your stay at no extra cost. The ticket is funded by the statutory mobility levy, which is charged in addition to the overnight stay tax. Please get in touch with us before you arrive so that we can arrange ticket collection and your pick-up in Neukirchen with you.

In the summer, you can also get the National Park Summer Card from us. It includes, amongst other things, journeys in participating ‘hiking taxis’. The routes included and the number of journeys included in each case depend on the offer from the individual partner. Please also note the operating hours and that you may need to book in advance.

What charging options are available for electric cars?

There are four electric vehicle charging points available on our top car park level. There is a charge for charging; the cost is calculated based on the kilowatt-hours charged. If you have any questions about how to use it, our reception team will be happy to help.

What can I do to help as a guest?

With us, you can choose not to have your room cleaned up to three times a week. To do this, hang the wooden sign provided on your bedroom door. This way, our team will know that you don’t need your room cleaned on that day.

For every room cleaning service skipped in this way, we will have a tree planted in collaboration with the "Trees for Tomorrow" charity. This is how we combine your decision with a joint planting initiative.

How is the hotel laundry organised?

We wash some of our hotel linen on the premises. For any further laundry, we work in partnership with the Salesianer laundry in Leogang.

When it comes to your bath and hand towels, you decide for yourself when you need fresh ones: if you’d like to have them changed, just leave the used ones on the floor. If there are any towels you’d like to keep using, just hang them back up.

What hygiene and cleaning systems are used?

We work with Hagleitner from Zell am See on cleaning and hygiene. Among other things, we use touchless soap and paper dispensers in the hotel. Our washing machines and dishwashers are fitted with dosing systems that measure out the correct amount of detergent for each wash or washing-up cycle.

What skincare products are used in the spa?

At our spa, we use products from ALPIN DERM and the Austrian family-run company STYX Naturcosmetic. Our range of skincare treatments is complemented by homemade scrubs made with herbs. Here, too, we combine our knowledge of herbs with the joy of doing things ourselves.

What is the hotel’s stance on social responsibility?

It is our team that makes our company what it is. That’s why, for us, the workplace also encompasses the life that surrounds it: if required, we can offer accommodation in our climbing lodge or in the neighbouring farmhouse. The lodge offers modern single rooms with en-suite bathrooms and kitchenettes.

Our team benefits also include meals, training courses and seminars, use of our Crystal and Garden SPA and participation in the hiking programme. With the WORK FOR US BonusCARD, our staff can enjoy additional discounts across the region.

Where does Hotel Gassner source its electricity?

We source our electricity from Lichtgenossenschaft Neukirchen eGen, which operates the local power grid and generates electricity in its own hydroelectric power plants. These include the Wiesbach II, Untersulzbach, Dürnbach and Sulzau power plants. According to the current electricity disclosure, the energy mix comes entirely from renewable sources, predominantly hydropower, with 100% of the guarantees of origin coming from Austria. This means that our electricity supply, too, remains closely connected to our region.
