Off the slopes
Winter days that feel light and easy
Not really into hitting the slopes, or just looking for a bit of variety on your winter holiday? Then check out all the cool stuff to do off-piste and see what takes your fancy. We've picked out the best spots away from the slopes – hand-picked, close to nature and full of variety. For anyone who likes to blaze their own trail.

House and
yard tour
For warm feet and rosy cheeks
Let's start with what we love most – the Gassner house and farm tour. It starts right behind the hotel and takes you up to Hohenneukirchen Castle, continuing through the snow-covered forest to our Kühnreit farm and back to the ski slope via the hiking trail. Passing the tree house, you then head straight into the cosy living room – where a hot chocolate is already waiting for you.
Ski touring
Mountain experiences with depth
Whether it's a gentle ascent or a challenging summit tour, ski touring in the Hohe Tauern region is an experience in itself. Enjoyment, adventure and nature merge into a feeling of freedom. A special highlight for anyone holidaying at Hotel Gassner is the ski tour to the Großvenediger – one of the most impressive undertakings in the Eastern Alps.
State-certified mountain and ski guides from the national park region will accompany you safely to the summit and ensure that the descent is also an unforgettable experience. A ski tour that leaves its mark not only physically but also emotionally. Those who don't want to go quite so high will also find great camps for beginners and advanced skiers in the region – ski touring yoga retreats as well as day and multi-day tours are also offered. Just go a little further and take a look around – how about it?

Cross-country skiing
Through winter at your own pace
30 kilometres of perfectly groomed trails lead through the snow-covered winter landscape of Neukirchen am Großvenediger – always accompanied by impressive views of the Hohe Tauern and Kitzbühel Alps. The ‘Wennserloipe’ in Bramberg and the ‘Loipe Einöd’ in Neukirchen are illuminated in the evening, allowing you to enjoy nature under the starry sky even at later hours. Whether you prefer a leisurely pace on the Pinzgau trail through the Salzach Valley or a more athletic pace on a high-altitude trail, everyone is sure to find their own rhythm here. If you like, you can be accompanied by the professionals from the Neukirchen cross-country skiing school.
Ice skating and
Alpine curling
Icy beautiful and so much fun
Smooth as glass, shiny and really inviting – the artificial ice rink in the centre of Neukirchen is the perfect place to try out your first attempts at ice skating with the little ones, try out the pirouettes of yesteryear or work on your precision with a game of curling.
You can hire ice skates on site and admission is free. Every Tuesday and Thursday, the popular curling event takes place – great atmosphere guaranteed! Anyone who takes part will quickly realise that even on the ice, it can warm your heart.

Accompany the national park rangers to the feeding station in Habachtal, see the Krimml Waterfalls frozen over or book a romantic horse-drawn carriage ride – winter days away from the slopes feel wonderfully light.
What else?
How about tobogganing by day or night, winter hiking with our hiking experts or the national park rangers? Perhaps a visit to the national park centre in neighbouring Mittersill? If you feel like it, take a trip to Kitzbühel, stroll through one of the Advent markets in the region or enjoy the first signs of spring with an Aperol in the sun. For a really good insider tip, just come to us at reception – we're sure to come up with something special for you.
