Off the slopes
Winter days that simply feel light
Not really the piste-fun type, or do you appreciate a bit of variety on a winter holiday? Then let yourself be inspired by the many possibilities off the slopes and decide for yourself what calls to you. We've sought out the most beautiful places for you off the pistes - hand-selected, close to nature and full of adventure. For all those who prefer to follow their own path.

Round the house
and grounds
For warm feet and rosy cheeks
Let's start with our favourite route – the Gassner house & grounds loop. It starts right behind the hotel and leads you up to Hohenneukirchen Castle, then on through the snow-covered forest to our Kühnreit farm and along the footpath back to the ski run. Past the treehouse, you head straight into the cosy living room – where a hot chocolate is already waiting for you.
Ski tours
Mountain experiences with depth
Whether a gentle ascent or a major summit tour – ski tours in the Hohe Tauern region are an experience in themselves. Pleasure, adventure and nature blend into a sense of freedom. A special highlight for everyone staying at Hotel Gassner for ski touring is the ski tour to the Grossvenediger – one of the most impressive adventures in the Eastern Alps.
Fully qualified mountain and ski guides from the National Park region will accompany you safely to the summit and make sure the descent is an unforgettable experience too. A ski tour that leaves its mark not only physically but also emotionally. If you don’t want to aim quite so high, you’ll find great camps in the region for beginners and advanced participants and there are ski touring yoga retreats as well as day and multi-day tours on offer. Just go beyond your comfort zone and take a little look around while you’re there – how about it?

Cross-country skiing
Through the winter at your own pace
30 kilometres of perfectly groomed cross-country ski trails lead through the snow-covered winter landscape of Neukirchen am Grossvenediger, always accompanied by impressive views of the Hohe Tauern and the Kitzbühel Alps. The 'Wennserloipe' in Bramberg and the 'Loipe Einöd' in Neukirchen are lit in the evenings, offering a nature experience under the starry sky even at a later hour. Whether at a leisurely pace on the Pinzgau cross-country trail through the Salzach Valley or more athletically on a high-altitude cross-country trail – everyone is sure to find their own rhythm here. If you like, you can be accompanied by the professionals at Neukirchen Cross-Country Ski School.

Join the national park rangers for a feeding demonstration in the Habachtal, experience the Krimml Waterfalls frozen, or book a romantic horse-drawn carriage ride – winter days away from the slopes simply feel wonderfully light.
What else?
How about tobogganing by day or night, or winter hiking with our hiking experts or the national park rangers? Perhaps a visit to the National Park Centre in neighbouring Mittersill? Anyone who fancies it takes a trip to Kitzbühel, strolls around one of the region’s Advent markets, or enjoys their first Aperol in the sun as the springtime mood begins to set in. For a really good insider tip, just come and see us at reception – we’re sure to come up with something special for you.
