Krimmler Achental
Following the trails of the pack mules
Above the Krimml Waterfalls – the highest waterfalls in Europe and the fifth highest in the world – the longest and highest valley in the Hohe Tauern National Park opens up: the Krimmler Achental.
Wide and relatively gentle, it stretches deep into the mountain world, lined with impressive stands of stone pine. At the end of the valley towers the rugged Krimmler Kees glacier, the source of the Krimmler Ache. Two side valleys – the Rainbach and Windbach valleys – also invite you to explore.
The striking peaks surrounding the Krimmler Achental – above all the Dreiherrnspitze, Simonyspitze, and Reichenspitze – are perfect for impressive tours. Numerous alpine crossings with a mountain guide open the way into neighboring valleys and to huts such as the Zittauer Hütte, Plauener Hütte, or Birnlückenhütte – in some cases even as far as Italy.
